Presidential candidate Mwaure writes to 15 countries calling for return of Kenya's stolen funds

Agano Party presidential candidate David Mwaure has written a letter to various nations, typically considered as tax havens, enquiring whether any of Kenya's public funds lost through graft have been stashed within their borders.

The nations include the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, UAE, Mauritius, Seychelles, Jordan, Taiwan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Island of Van and the Cayman Islands.

Mwaure, in the letter dated July 15, 2022, which was also addressed to the United Nations, implored the listed nations to return the money to Kenya should they discover that their country is one of the destinations where these funds may have been hoarded.

"The nation and people of Kenya are currently undergoing a lot of economic suffering ranging from the high cost of living, high cost of essential foodstuffs, highest external and internal debt and a very high employment rate," said Mwaure in the letter.

"While this is taking place, it is common knowledge that a lot of development funds and/or wealth illegally obtained from Kenya has been illegally stashed abroad in foreign countries in both official and unofficial tax havens."

According to Mwaure, his request can be responded to by the said nations despite the fact that he is yet to become President, adding that the matter is of great public interest.

"This enquiry will also extend to other nations and States not mentioned here, as information will be available," he said.

"We copy this letter to the office of the Secretary-General of United Nations and other international organisations that may have information about this matter with a request to give us facts, figures and names."
