While receiving the MS Norwegian Dawn which docked in Mombasa, Ruto noted that Kenya's tourism has been on an upward trajectory, adding that the nation recorded an increased tourism revenue to Ksh.450 billion, "an increase of about 80 billion".
He therefore encouraged the private sector to seize the opportunity and set up shop along the Kenyan coast and other regions to scale up tourism activities to accommodate rising tourism numbers.
"There are opportunities in providing hospitality facilities. I urge the private sector to expand their footprint by making sure that as we grow the numbers we also grow the facilities and enhance our very able hospitality workers so that we can serve our guests better," Ruto noted.
He added that the move to waive Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirements for Africans visiting Kenya to boost national tourism, adding that entry requirements will be revised for global tourists.
"We are proud of the achievements and the strides we are making as a country in making it a suitable destination for those who visit from different parts of the world," Ruto stated.
According to President Ruto, the shipping vessel is ferrying almost 3,000 people among them 2,200 guests.
