President Ruto to take over from Uhuru as Kenya Scouts patron
President William Ruto is set to take over
the Kenya Scouts Association patronage from his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Kenya Scouts Annual General Meeting,
which is currently ongoing at the Rowland National Scouts Camp Grounds in
Nairobi, will formally pass a Declaration of Commencement of Patronage
Transfer, from former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the current Head of State.
The event, which is led by Chief Scout Prof. Jacob
Kaimenyi, will also launch Kenya’s historic hosting of the 2023 World Moot Camp
in April 2023, with over 170 member countries expected to attend.
The AGM has brought together delegates from
all the 47 counties, represented by 6 officials, including a member from the
Ministry of Education who witnessed Presentation of Awards of Excellence, as
well as participating in Elections for the Kenya Scouts Association Chief
Commissioner.
"Now that there has been a change of
guard, our patron is none other than President Ruto and we are very privileged
and honored to have a very fatherly patron," Prof. Kaimenyi said.
"I have had the opportunity of working
with him very closely. I know him as a man who is very concerned about the
welfare and the success of our youth."
On her part, Deputy Chief Commissioner Alice
Kinungi urged President Ruto and relevant stakeholders to support the aforesaid
moot camp slated for April next year.
"We will be hosting around 3,000
international guests and our own scouts so we are expecting around 5,000 scouts
at the event," she said.
