President Ruto to sign Affordable Housing Bill on Tuesday
President William Ruto will on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 assent to the Affordable Housing Bill to pave the way for the return of housing levy deductions.
During an interdenominational prayer service in Trans
Mara on Sunday, Ruto affirmed yet again that he will be signing into law the bill
that was passed by both chambers of parliament in concurrence.
Both the Senate and the National Assembly passed the
bill last week, with amendments introduced in the bill including bringing
county governments to the fold.
Governors had earlier through public participation
raised concerns on why the national government is implementing the housing
programme yet the function is devolved.
Governors will now form county liaison committees to
oversee the implementation of the programme.
The president while in Kilgoris said the government is
keen on implementing its pledge on roads and other development projects while
affirming that the country is back on a promising economic trajectory.
“Mwaka jana tulikuwa na shida sana; sasa leo
nawahakikishia kuwa mwaka huu ndio mtaona maendeleo tukliwaambia,” Ruto said.
President Ruto, Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu and
several members of parliament were in Ildolisho village in Kilgoris
constituency, for the thanksgiving ceremony of Tourism Principal Secretary John
Ololtuaa.
Governor Ntutu led leaders from the region to call for
an enhanced road network in Trans Mara, with President William Ruto promising
to have major highways tarmacked including the Kilgoris-Mariwa road as well as the
Lolgorian-Kilgoris road.
President Ruto who was a few meters from the conflict
hit Nkararo-Enooretet border directed that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki
return to the site to enhance security.
The president also unveiled the Utalii College
Ildolisho campus.
