President Ruto set for four-day official trip to DRC, Korea

President William Ruto will leave the country on Sunday for a one-day visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

After his trip to the DRC, President Ruto will travel to the Republic of Korea for a three-day official visit.

The Head of State will hold bilateral discussions with His Excellency President Felix Tshisekedi on topics of mutual interest, such as trade and investments, regional integration, and the security situation in Eastern DRC, according to a statement from the Statehouse Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, on Sunday.

“Kenya is playing a crucial role as a member of the East African Community in support of the ‘Nairobi Peace Process’, that involves talks between the government of DRC and the armed groups in the Eastern part of the country, to restore peace and security in Eastern DRC,” the statement reads.

“Kenya has also sent its troops for a peacekeeping mission in the region, as part of the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF),”

During his visit to Korea, President Ruto will meet with his counterpart, President Yoon Suk-Yeol, for bilateral talks.

According to the statement, Ruto will seek partnerships in key sectors of the government's economic transformation agenda, such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and public health, with engagements culminating in the signing of bilateral trade agreements.

Kenya will also move forward with negotiations to open new markets for its exports as part of expanding bilateral trade.
