President Ruto lists his biggest achievements since taking office
Nearly
a year after taking office, President Ruto on Sunday outlined his
administration's accomplishments to date.
The
Head of State was speaking on Inooro TV's Kiririmbi show from the Sagana State
lodge, where he has pitched camp since Thursday.
He
said his administration’s biggest stride has been in the Education sector, where the Education Taskforce he formed since assuming office has come up with
recommendations that will streamline the sector.
“During the campaigns, we promised we would deal with
matters education, and you remember the issues we had with
CBC, parents did not know what would happened to their children after class 6,”
President Ruto said.
“My happiness today is that the task force we formed
after I came to office has ironed these issues out and now our kids have a
clear path to education,”
Still on education, President Ruto stated that his
administration has hired 56,000 new teachers to address the country's teacher
shortage, as well as intervened in TVETs and universities.
“We have also ironed out the issues with TVETs, you know
in the past it was not clear how students would go about it in terms of
scholarships, capitation.. We have solved that now,” he added.
“We also had issues with our universities, and most
across the country were facing closure and we have addressed those issues in
consultation with stakeholders,”
President Ruto also highlighted the agricultural sector
in his list of accomplishments, stating that his administration was now
addressing Kenya's high cost of living by intervening in farming.
Some of the interventions, he said, included enrolling
farmers in a program based on the size of their land and lowering the cost of
fertilizer.
“52 percent of Kenya’s cost of living is the cost of
food, we have used over 12 Billion to subsidize fertilizer because that is the
right thing,” he said.
“Today if you get on a plane and go around Kenya to
Malaba, you will see how the maize crop looks,”
Third on his list of accomplishments, he says, is the
stabilization of Kenya's public debt.
“Our first intervention in the supplementary budget, we
removed Ksh.300 Billion of money that we would have borrowed,”
“We have also reduced our fiscal deficit from nearly Ksh.
1.1 trillion to Ksh.700M, we have removed close to Ksh.500B that we would have
borrowed,”
President Ruto also spoke about his achievements as far
as the economy is concerned-saying his administration has stabilized the
economy.
He stated that, for the first time in ten years, the
National Government was able to pay all monies owed to county governments in
July, the same month.
“Hata governors walishangaa wananiuliza, hii pesa
ushalipa tayari.. they were used to waiting for unto four months sometime for
payments,” President Ruto added.
President Ruto also mentioned that through his
administration's intervention, Kenya was able to increase its savings base to
Ksh.6 billion per month.
“Leo Mkenya analipa six percent inaenda kwa akiba,
employer analysa 6 percent inaenda kwa akiba.. Ile pesa tulikuwa tunaweka kwa
akiba, shilingi bilioni moja na laki tatu, leo tunaweka akiba bilioni sita kila
mwezi.
The President is currently on a tour of Central Kenya
where he is launching various development projects.
