President Ruto: Kenya to leverage on technology to roll out Universal Health Care
Speaking on Thursday when he met Africa Director at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Cheikh Oumar Seydi at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said this will ensure efficiency, stop pilferage and secure access for all Kenyans, especially those at the bottom of the wealth pyramid.
"UHC is a top priority for this administration. We need to reconfigure how we deliver health services and technology is the solution," he stated.
On his part, Mr Oumar said the foundation sees an opportunity to expand programmes in Kenya and will support the quest for a successful rollout of UHC.
President Ruto noted that it was time Africa supplemented rain-fed agriculture with irrigation to tame food shortage.
The meeting comes at a time Kenya is battling a drought crisis that has been dubbed the worst in 40 years.
Over 300,000 wild and domestic animals have been wiped out while about 4.5 million Kenyans are in dire need of relief food.
The Head of State had on Tuesday announced plans to increase support funds from Ksh.2 billion to Ksh.10 billion to ensure all regions affected are catered for.
