President Ruto, First Lady Rachel share Christmas & New Year message
President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto
have extended their Christmas and New Year messages to Kenyans.
In a recorded video message, President Ruto praised
the millions of Kenyan men and women whose hard work, determination, and
dedication have played a key role in nation-building.
"There is evidence before us that the work of
building a stronger, more united, secure and prosperous Kenya is
underway," Ruto said in his opening remarks.
He went on to recognize health workers as guardians
of the country's well-being, and whose work is the foundation of a healthier
nation and a healthier future.
"Our health workers are guardians of our well
-being, using their knowledge, skills and compassion to ensure every Kenyan has
access to care," he added.
In her opening remarks, First Lady Rachel Ruto
reflected on her days as a teacher and vowed to ensure that hunger does not
hinder the education of children.
"Having been a teacher, I understand how
difficult it is to teach a hungry child. A plate of food is power in a child's
hands," she said.
Further, President Ruto continued with his push for
affordable housing as a gateway for economic growth.
"Every brick you lay takes our country forward
towards a future of dignity, security and inclusive growth. In constructing
these homes, we are building lasting hope for Kenyan families," the
president noted.
The First Lady urged Kenyans to grow more organic food while also nurturing their children with love and care.
"A kitchen garden is a gift we give ourselves
that keeps giving, providing families with fresh, healthy meals. You can
transform your meal table by stepping out to do a little cultivation this
Christmas."
President Ruto set his eyes on the government's 2032
target to plant 15 billion trees, thus increasing the country's forest coverage
to 30 percent.
"Planting trees is an act of hope. We do this
to remind ourselves that our action can make a difference for us and for future
generations. Trees protect our rivers and water catchment areas, combat climate
change and beautify our land. Our tree planting program is our collective
expression of hope for a Kenya that is beautiful and bountiful now and for
years to come," the president noted.
The two summed up their message by extending
gratitude, love and reiterating on the importance of giving.
"Let us rediscover the power of selfless love
in the spirit of this festive season. May it continue to inspire us as we raise
our families, serve our communities and build our nation. This Christmas, let
us remember that together we are always unstoppable."
Calling on Kenyans to spread the cheer, they
emphasized on the need for national unity, solidarity, compassion, friendship
and kindness.
"Experience the miracle of giving by giving.
Together we will do great deeds for our nation and warm every Kenyan heart. To
each one of you and your families may Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous
New Year 2025."
