President Ruto calls for tolerance after Kericho Governor Mutai booed in his presence
President William Ruto’s development tour of
Kericho County was marred by local politics, as residents shouted down Governor
Dr. Erick Mutai as he rose to address the crowd in the Head of State’s presence.
The President condemned the incident calling
on residents to exercise restraint and utilize their power at the ballot during
the next election to hold non-performing leaders accountable.
Ruto, who was accompanied by his deputy
Rigathi Gachagua and a host of other leaders, used the tour to popularize his
administration's development plans as he launched different projects.
And on a day that doctors downed their tools
in the country, the President while opening the Belgut Technical Training
Institute and Belgut TTI Digital Hub, maintained that his government was ready
to roll out the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and called on locals to
register for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) saying they do not want to
leave anyone behind.
“Sasa tuko tayari kuroll out Universal Health
Coverage in Kenya na nataka kila Mkenya ajisajili upya ili tuweze kumeet
malengo yetu manne...tuko na health promoters 200, 000 na tunataka hawa waanze
pale bottom pale chini,” he said.
“Tunataka wafike pale wakuje na tumewapatia
kila kitu, ya pili tunataka kila mmoja ajisajili na kama ulikuwa unalipa Ksh.500
sasa utalipa Ksh.300.”
