President William Ruto has appointed Bishop David Oginde as the new Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Bishop Oginde, according to a special gazette notice dated May 2, 2023, now comes into the role to replace Eliud Wabukhala who retired in January 2023 after serving for the past six years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 (5) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act. 2011, I, William Suomi Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint David Adang Oginde (Dr.) to be the Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for a period of six (6) years,” read the notice.

The former CITAM Bishop was nominated by President Ruto on March 11, 2023 following recommendations by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Last month, he appeared before the Justice and the Legal Affairs committee in the National Assembly for vetting, upon which his nomination was approved.

During his vetting, Bishop Oginde vowed to ensure zero graft-tolerance across the board if he got appointed to the position.

“Corruption is corruption regardless of where it happens. If it is proven that something fishy is going on in churches, mosques and even private institutions, then it will be dealt with,” he said then.

“I would like to implore the Judiciary and the Law Society of Kenya that if we love this country, the way we handle corruption cases should be focused on eradicating it. Some people are let go on flimsy grounds or technicalities and hence public opinion is that justice was not served.”
