President Kenyatta thanks Othaya residents for giving Kibaki a proper send-off
President Uhuru Kenyatta has lauded the
residents of Othaya and the larger Nyeri County for showing up in large numbers
to bid farewell to his predecessor Mwai Kibaki who passed away last week.
Speaking
at Kibaki’s requiem mass in Othaya on Saturday, President Kenyatta noted that
the event was befitting of a man of Kibaki’s stature, underscoring that the
show of camaraderie in the county did not go unnoticed.
“To all
the residents of Othaya and Nyeri County I would like to thank you for giving
this great man, who has done so much for Kenya, East Africa and Africa and the
world, a proper send-off. We will not forget this and we will continue being
with you,” he said.
President
Kenyatta likewise reassured the late president's family that the state and the
whole country was genuinely condoling with them and keeping them in their
prayers.
“You are
not standing alone. We are together with you and we shall continue to be
together with you. Accept our condolences, our prayers and may the almighty God
rest this great soul in eternal peace,” he said.
The Head
of State correspondingly urged Kenyans to borrow a
leaf from the late former president’s book on statesmanship, noting that the
nation would positively change as a result.
“As
Kenyans we shouldn’t just say that we will emulate this great man through words
alone, we should do it via actions and I am certain if we do so our nation will
change for the better,” he said.
