All set for Wiper Party nominations in Mombasa
Security agencies have any acts of hooliganism will not be tolerated as witnessed in previous nominations held in Mombasa.
Speaking after meeting Wiper party Mombasa County officials, Urban police OCPD Joseph Ong’aya said security officers will be deployed in various polling stations to ensure the nomination process is conducted as per the law.
At the same time, Mombasa County Wiper Party Chairman Sheikh Twaha Omar confirmed that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been cleared by the Wiper party to contest for the Mombasa Governor seat, adding that his documents have been submitted to IEBC for verification.
Speaking at one of the polling stations at Old Town area in Mombasa, Sheikh Twaha said that Sonko will now battle it out for the ticket with Ali Mbogo who was initially the only candidate who had already been given the party ticket.
He confirmed that the preparations for the nominations process has been concluded and urged party members to turn up in large numbers and nominate the leaders of their choice.
Sonko is currently facing a series of criminal charges including corruption, assault and terrorism.
Last month, the United States of America banned Sonko and his close family members from travelling to the US.
