Pregnant teenager hospitalized after brutal panga attack by boyfriend in Machakos

By the time police arrived, Ndanu had already been rushed to Masii Level 3 Hospital, where she received initial treatment before being transferred to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for more advanced care.

An 18-year-old girl from Mbiuni, Mwala Subcounty, is being treated at Machakos Level 5 Hospital following a brutal attack allegedly carried out by her 22-year-old boyfriend of two years, Brian Waita.

Ndanu, who is 23 weeks pregnant, was attacked with a panga, resulting in deep cuts to her neck and a broken arm.

The assault occurred after what appeared to be a normal day.

According to Ndanu, the couple had lunch together, and Waita then left, claiming he was going to get a donkey to use at the market.

Upon returning with the donkey, he began washing his shirt while Ndanu rested.

Moments later, she found herself on the floor, bloodied from a vicious slash to the neck and arm.

In shock, she crawled to the bed and called a neighbour for assistance after her boyfriend fled, trapping her inside the house.

In a desperate attempt to save her, a local man climbed through the roof and unlocked the door.

By the time police arrived, Ndanu had already been rushed to Masii Level 3 Hospital, where she received initial treatment before being transferred to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for more advanced care.

"I still can’t believe that my husband, who has always been loving and caring, did this to me," Ndanu said tearfully, adding that the couple had no children but that she is expecting their first.

Juliana Mwendwa, Nursing Service Manager at Machakos Level 5, confirmed that Ndanu had suffered serious injuries, including a deep cut to her neck and arm.

"She arrived unconscious but is now stable and recovering in the orthopedic ward," Mwendwa said. She further expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence in the county, urging the community to take a stand against the vice.

Mwala OCPD Muthoni Wahome confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and authorities are actively pursuing the suspect, who remains at large since the incident
