Pomp and color: Kristoff officially launches new song in rousing all-night affair

By 10pm, Saturday night, Kristoff and the entire CMG Records conglomeration had started to make their way to the Nairobi CBD, arriving in flashy - and grandiosely souped-up - minivans, ready for what was already promising to be a spectacular night.

This was the night meant to formally unleash Kristoff and Trio Mio's latest project, a song dubbed "Asubui Na Mapema", a lyrical showpiece which brought back the tenacity, sheer grit and unparalleled rap excellence that Kristoff has been known for.

The posse, which consisted of all of the label's top acts, as well as some specialized talents and the management too, first took to the brightly-lit streets, taking time to savour the groovy Saturday night aura before making their glossy way to XS Millionaires, where a party, peppered with lavishness and regal ambience, was slated to commence.

Loice Mwangi, as well as Gift Nasimiyu, the label's managers, led the team which also comprised of the likes of Kenda Risper (media personnel), Zipporah Kihuna (social media manager) and Control Bwoy (singer), all who jumped into the waiting minivans, all splendidly decked-out in a range of modish fittings which included flashy strobe lights, thumping music systems and an elaborate interior design, with leather seats and mini-screens from all sides.

Other members of the CMG crew who joined the entourage included Reenckid and Bruno (Tiktok influencers) as well as MC Vyronne and the fast-rising DJ Slayer.

Some minutes past 11pm, Kristoff would be met by a bevy of beauties from XS Millionaires - all resplendently dressed in sultry nighttime costumes, as they waved flags, bottle presenters and sparklers, ready to welcome Kristoff into the night's festivities.

Upon entrance, the DJ played a specific tune meant to draw all attention to the new, minted entrants, as the MC lavishly toasted to the crew, mentioning their names and bringing activities to a screeching - but welcome - halt.

"Make some noise for the CMG crew! It's been a long time coming! Tonight, we toast to this!" The MC roared as girls, who walked gratifyingly and smiled charmingly, helped usher the team to their VIP seats, while at the same time carrying high an LED bottle service presenter emblazoned "Welcome, Kristoff!"

Quickly, the night was set into motion, as cognac bottles littered the table and the crew got down to the business of toasting, clinking of glasses and a steady session of unbridled merry-making.

"This is to you all!" the MC declared. "Congratulations on your new song and the strides you've made in the industry! CMG Records is taking over the world and we are happy to witness the making of history!"

At the peak of things, it was now Kristoff's turn to share his brilliant lyricism with the gathered crowd and, at around 2am, the renowned rapper dropped a flawless VIP-section performance of "Asubui Na Mapema", bringing the roof down, drawing a thunderous applause and reminding everyone why he has consistently been one of the best ever to grace the mic - he was, in every shape or form, the ultimate rap paragon.

"I wish to thank every one of you for the gracious welcome and the warm response," Kristoff told the animated crowd. "I'm glad you have shown so much love to my latest release. I did it for you - all of you! It's December, it's been a tough year and we all deserve to feel good and win again!"

As the night wore on, and the bottles continued coming, it was now becoming evidently clear that Kristoff had not just made a triumphal re-entry into the withering rap scene but had also reminded fans - and foes alike - just what making good music is really all about - and what it takes to keep a star as dazzling as his, shining.

Speaking about the night, Gift Nasimiyu, one-half of the management, assured fans that a lot more was in store - and that CMG Records was intentional about ultimately dominating the music scene.

"We're so thrilled that this happened and that it was such a massive success. All this has been under wraps for months. We carefully plan out every step we make and also ensure that we do not just make an announcement, but do it with an unforgettable experience," she said.

"It's all part of our master plan. And we cannot wait to show everyone just what we really have in store. Just stay hooked."
