Polish national arrested with Ksh.3.2M heroin at JKIA
A 37-year-old Polish national was on Friday arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after being found in possession of heroin with an estimated street value of Ksh.3.2 million.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says that Arkadiusz Stanislaw was moments away from boarding a Budapest-bound Egyptian plane before his arrest.
The heroin was
found stashed in his luggage.
"The
trafficker who was destined for Hungary's capital, Budapest, has since been
booked in police cells awaiting further processing and arraignment," the
DCI said in a statement.
"Stanislaw's
arrest comes at a time when crackdowns on drug traffickers and unlicensed
brewers have been heightened, a move by the government to foil the illicit
trade in the country."
The
head of DCI's Anti-Narcotics Unit, Margaret Karanja, has since warned drug
traffickers and peddlers that they will face the full brunt of the law, in equal
measure, irrespective of their roles in the narcotics trade.
