Police warn of traffic snarl-up on Mombasa Road due to flooding
Mombasa Road users have been advised to
exercise caution while approaching Sultan Hamud Township following heavy
downpour that resulted in flooding.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the
National Police Service (NPS) informed motorists plying the route about the
traffic congestion on the busy highway due to the floods.
The multi-urgency body thus appealed to
drivers to be careful and avoid overlapping so as not to escalate the
situation.
“Please note that due to the heavy rains
being experienced in various parts of the country, a section of Mombasa Road
near Sultan Hamud Township has been flooded. This has resulted in a snarl-up of
traffic along that section of the busy highway,” NPS stated.
“While police officers are on the ground
controlling the traffic and monitoring the situation, we wish to appeal to all
motorists approaching Sultan Hamud to drive carefully, be patient and avoid
overlapping.”
This comes as heavy rainfall experienced in
many parts of the country led to flooding on major roads.
Mombasa County on Saturday morning reported
cases of flooding in the Central
Business District (CBD) with many roads being rendered
impassable.
