Police officer knocks down pedestrian, angry boda boda riders set his vehicle on fire
A police officer stationed at Makongeni
Police Station in Nairobi was rescued from an angry mob’s wrath after he
knocked down a pedestrian on Lusaka Road on Friday evening.
According to a police report obtained by
Citizen Digital, the incident unfolded when the officer, driving an Isuzu NQR
Canter, was heading towards City Stadium at 6:45 pm.
Upon reaching Lusaka Road, he hit a male
pedestrian who died on the spot. The officer was confronted by rowdy boda boda
riders and members of the public who bayed for his blood.
The mob stoned his vehicle and set it on
fire, destroying the front cabin seat and left passenger door.
During the confrontation, a police patrol
team that was in the area rushed to the scene and rescued the officer.
The officer sustained injuries on the right
hand elbow and multiple injuries on his back. He was rushed to Huruma Nursing
Home to receive medical treatment.
The patrol team, accompanied by traffic
personnel, managed to restore calm in the area and documented the scene.
