CCTV footage reveals how Ruiru man dumped girlfriend’s body after killing her
Detectives from
the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have obtained CCTV footage that
shows how a Ruiru-based man dumped the body of his lover after allegedly killing her following a domestic dispute.
Ryspa Ndunge's
remains were found stashed in a suitcase outside a rental building within
Gatongora area of Ruiru, Kiambu County, on April 18, 2023.
Police say that
the deceased's boyfriend, Morris Njuguna (28) calculatedly murdered her on the
night of April 17, before disposing her body.
Ndunge worked as a
cashier at a popular nyama choma eatery at Kamakis while Njuguna also plied his
trade as a chef at the same establishment.
Police say that
owing to the nature of their work, Njuguna would arrive home much earlier than
his lover who is reported to have constantly arrived home in the wee hours of
the morning following her shifts.
"This didn’t
go down well with Morris who suspected that all that time was not spent on
balancing the day’s sales as alleged, but on other suspicious activities,"
the DCI said in a statement.
"This became
the source of constant arguments in their young union and on April 17, 2023,
the argument degenerated into a fight leading to the deceased’s demise, after
she arrived past 3am."
Despite murdering
his lover, Njuguna reportedly showed up for work the next morning, as per his
routine, and allegedly claimed that Ndunge had decided to quit her job.
Despite the couple
moving in together just five months before the incident, Njuguna also alleged
that he and Ndunge would subsequently move into a new house, whose location he
did not reveal to his colleagues.
After leaving work
for home, Njuguna reportedly passed by a local kiosk where he purchased a sack
which he intended to use in disposing the victim's body.
"He placed
the deceased’s body in a travel suitcase before covering it with the
sack," said the DCI.
"The suspect
then carried the lifeless body disguised as a luggage, and after one kilometre,
disposed it outside the gate to a rental building, before walking off."
CCTV footage from
the rental building captured Njuguna dumping the deceased's body at 9:35 pm.
The rental
building's landlord reached out to officers at Gatongora Police Station after
discovering the body.
Njuguna was
arrested on April 21, 2023, by detectives who subsequently recorded statements
from him and witnesses.
His cousin,
Francis Chege (32), was also apprehended by sleuths in Mukuyu, Murang'a County
after GPS tied him to the victim's phone, which he however claimed to have been
given to him by Njuguna.
"The main
suspect also led detectives to the shop where he had bought the sack used in
concealing the suitcase carrying the deceased’s body," said the DCI.
Njuguna remains in
custody pending arraignment where he is set to be charged with murder.
