Police nab five Mpesa fraudsters in Eldoret

Detectives have nabbed five suspects linked to increased Mpesa fraudulent dealings in Eldoret and other parts of the country.

According to police, the operation was conducted following numerous complaints reported by mobile money shop attendants whose floats have been swept clean through fraudulent tricks by a notorious criminal ring operating across counties.

The suspects, Geoffrey Kasamani Chula, a resident of Munyaka in Eldoret, Stephen Mokaya Nyangoya, a resident of Tiwani area in Kitale, Paul Nganga Kariuki of Hawaii in Eldoret, Teresia Muthoni Mwaniki of Kimumu area in Eldoret and Cedela Akoth Oruya from Kibosi in Kisumu were arrested in the ongoing operation that targets a larger group in the web.

The DCI special unit with operation action team also intercepted a motor vehicle Reg. No KBW 441J make premio in which they were driving  wherein several sim cards registered under different names and assorted mobile phones were also recovered.

The suspects have been escorted to Ruai police station in Nairobi where one of the reports was filed, and other stations with similar incidents have been contacted to probe the suspects further.
