Police launch hunt for ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ after six sacks of bhang recovered at Juja apartment
Detectives
in Juja on Friday raided an apartment they said was owned by Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu,
popularly known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara.’
Barely a
year after she was arrested by detectives who raided a yard that had been
closed and later illegally reopened for drug trafficking business where over
100 kilograms of marijuana was seized in Ngara, Nairobi County, Kigunzu is back
on police radar.
Police
believe that the Georgina Apartment is owned by Kigunzu, and that she shifted
base to Juja from Ngara, operating in two houses at the said building where a
drugs trafficking business has been ongoing for some time now.
In the
search that lasted more than 12 hours, six sacks of marijuana were intercepted,
and four vehicles as well as a motorbike nabbed.
Police towed
away the four vehicles parked at the parking area of the apartment to Juja
Police Station where they are being held.
Two suspects,
David Ochieng Okoth and Christopher Odipo, who were arrested, will also spend
the weekend in police custody after they were arrested in the raid.
Police however
did not arrest Kigunzu and are searching for her, this not being the first time
she has had a brush with the law.
She was
arrested in August 2023 and a 100kg haul of bhang impounded from her operations
base at the time in parklands.
Police also
seized Ksh.13.4 million during the same raid, which was later forfeited to the
State on the orders of the court.
Kigunzu was then
released on Ksh.1 million cash bail in December 2023.
