Police forced to deal with ‘untouchable’ tout after Twitter outcry
Kenya Police Service has been forced to respond to allegations of a matatu tout who allegedly beats and harasses innocent civilians and gets away with it.
Twitter user Karani Mutonga on Tuesday exposed the tout after he allegedly assaulted a matatu passenger leaving him unconscious and bloodied.
According to Mr. Mutonga, the unfortunate event took place on January 30, after the victim boarded Unique Shuttle to Meru only to change his mind and board a different shuttle.
This did not settle well with “Felix Mwingirwa who allegedly smashed the passenger’s head on the windscreen and then hit his head on the barricade steel metal that cracked his skull.”
There was uproar online as Kenyans demanded to know why the tout is untouchable.
The Kenya Police Service responded through their official Twitter account saying that the man is indeed on their radar and has been charged in court three times with similar offenses but the cases are still pending.
“We are in receipt of the case posted below and are following up with OCS Central. The man in question has been charged in court three times with similar offenses, the cases are pending before court,” tweeted the Police.
The young man is fighting for his life at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Government agencies have intervened including National Transport and Safety Authority who reached out to National Police Service asking them to “Kindly take up the matter”.
