Police arrest main suspect behind North Rift banditry
In a major victory in the fight against banditry in the North Rift region,
Police in Baringo have arrested a suspected notorious bandit, Lonyangapat
Amerinyang' in Kapedo Akoret, Tiaty Sub-county.
Police say he has been on their radar for the last four years and he is suspected
to be the mastermind of the spat of banditry in the North Rift region.
Baringo Police Commandant Julius Kiragu hailed the arrest as a major
milestone in the fight against banditry. He said that Amerinyang' was in
possession of two firearms and 15 rounds of ammunition when he was arrested.
The arrest of Lonyangapat brings to three the total number of bandits who
have been arrested in Baringo county and three guns in total recovered.
Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa called on the public to
continue working with the police to fight banditry.
He said that information from the public is crucial in identifying and
arresting bandits.
Baringo County has been experiencing a series of bandit attacks with the
latest being Wednesday when one Kenya Police reservist was seriously injured at
Ng'aratuko area of Baringo North.
