Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday arrested eight foreigners in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on suspicion of entering the country illegally.

The male suspects comprised eight Somali and Ugandan nationals. They were apprehended alongside three Kenyans believed to have snuck them into the country inside a chauffeured vehicle.

According to the DCI, the suspects were en route to Nairobi's Eastleigh estate from Uganda.

"The eleven who were headed to Nairobi's Eastleigh area from Uganda included three Kenyan men and eight Somalia and Uganda nationals, chauffeured in a Toyota Hiace Reg No. KCF 860E.," the DCI said in a statement on X.

"After fruitless efforts to slide away from the police shadow closing in on them, the vehicle driver pulled over in surrender, hence the arrest and detention of the suspects at Tarakwa Police Station."

The DCI's Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) is currently interrogating the suspects to determine their activities in the country.

ATPU is exploring the possibility that the foreigners may be victims of human trafficking.
