Police, administrators face termination, prosecution over role in illicit alcohol deaths- CS Kindiki
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who spoke at the Mombasa ASK Showground on Monday, no officer found guilty will be transferred to another jurisdiction.
He was among local leaders who attended a meeting to deliberate on mechanisms to ruthlessly crack down on manufacturers, transporters, sellers, and peddlers of illegal spirits, narcotic drugs, and other substances in the Coast Region.
"As a policy, security officers and administrators enabling the manufacture, sale and use of killer brews and hard drugs, through their action and/or inaction will not be transferred to other jurisdictions," CS Kindiki said
"They will be sacked immediately and prosecuted in accordance with the law."
At the same time, CS Kindiki stated that the government will reward diligent officers who combat the menace with state honours and promotions.
"Diligent and patriotic Security and National Government Administration officers who unearth, thwart and apprehend persons behind the trade in illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs will be recognised and appreciated by the Government through promotion and award of State honours," he said.
With pockets of Central Kenya dealing with the illicit alcohol epidemic that recently killed 17 people in Kirinyaga, CS Kithure emphasised the need to crack down on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which he described as a national security challenge and a threat to Kenya's survival.
