Pokot South MP Pkosing threatens to impeach Moses Kuria over GMO maize importation saga
Speaking outside Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, MP Pkosing claimed that CS Kuria has no mandate to order the importation of the maize without engaging the public and various parties to deliberate on the matter.
He argued that a gazette notice must be tabled before Parliament for debate and should only proceed in accordance with the out-turn.
"There are no roadside declarations in this country, it must be public participation, there must be a gazette notice which will be tabled in Parliament and if Parliament questions it, it is done," he said.
MP Pkosing, therefore, warned that CS Kuria will be ousted from office if he fails to change tune, noting that he should also respect the mandate of his office.
"Let me tell Moses Kuria that he is not an MP for Gatundu, he is a minister of government. He needs to talk like a minister, knowing that he is responsible," he said.
"We want to tell Moses Kuria that he will be the first Cabinet Secretary to leave office and he might leave before the end of this month or before Christmas. If he continues like this we will impeach him. We will collect signatures from tomorrow."
MP Pkosing went on to add that CS Kuria should hold talks with farmers from the North Rift region and morph business terms with them.
He chided Kuria for his GMO on death remarks where he said that they can be added to the list of items that can cause death since Kenya is a hotbed of death anyway, urging him to tame his remarks to avoid sparking outrage from the public.
"He is not above the law and the people of Kenya. He should listen to farmers he was the one campaigning for guaranteed minimum returns. He should talk like a minister, not somebody from a bar," warned Pkosing.
"He should also respect life, he should not play around with death. Please step aside on your issues and buy maize from farmers."
Pkosing further sent a warning to institutions intending to take part in the importation, noting that they will be held responsible.
"We members of parliament from farmers region we want to tell any agency that Kuria wants to use to import, you will be on your own, particularly this parastatal called the Kenya National Trade Corporation," he said.
"We want to caution these parastatals that Moses Kuria wants to use, even KEBS will be on their own if they do a mistake."
Kuria has in the past few days received backlash from both members of the public and prominent leaders including Azimio la Umoja Raila Odinga, who accused him of lacking scientific literacy and using power to demean Kenyans.
