World Pneumonia Day: Infection leading child killer in Kenya

Pneumonia has been ranked as one of the major killers of children in Kenya, something that experts believe can be prevented.

A child under the age of five dies every 20 seconds globally due to Pneumonia while in Kenya, a huge number of children die from the same.

According to Dr. Warfa Osman who is the Head, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health Unit, such deaths can be prevented by proper nutrition, vaccination and early diagnosis. Treatment using Amoxicillin Dispersible Tablets can also be used to help pneumonia patients to recover.

As the world commemorates World Pneumonia Day, health stakeholders, led by Health CS Dr. Cleopa Mailu are today expected to meet to discuss the challenges facing the fight against the deadly disease.

Dr. Mailu is also expected to launch Amoxicillin Dispersible Tablets that are recommended in the disease’s treatment guidelines.

World Pneumonia day is observed annually on November 12, to help raise awareness about the infection which is the world’s leading killer disease of children under the age of five.
