Phone snatching declared emergency in Nigeria’s Kano state
Authorities
in Nigeria’s northern Kano state have declared a state of emergency over phone snatching
and other criminal activities.
The
state’s House of Assembly on Monday expressed concern over escalating incidents
of phone snatching, shoplifting, drug abuse and other crimes they termed as a
threat to the city's peaceful environment.
The
BBC reports that the motion was sponsored by the
majority leader in parliament, where members of the assembly resolved that the
situation needs to be addressed urgently before it worsens.
The
House adopted the motion and urged the state government to ensure the
perpetrators of the crimes were brought to book.
