Phanice Favour: My clubbed feet didn't stop my journey to success

Phanice Favour was born with clubbed feet, a condition that has plagued her life with stigma and psychological trauma.

According to her, she and her family were rejected because of a congenital (present at birth) condition in which your baby's foot or feet turn inward.

“This condition was accompanied by shame, rejection and pain for me. It can also bring a lot of bitterness and I remember people associating my family with my disability,” she said.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Phanice explained that, while the condition is treatable, the procedure used to correct it caused complications.

“ I had to quit school for three years and was bedridden for two and a half years. I developed severe and deep wounds that took a long time to heal, it was so painful.  I started with physiotherapy session but I was on wheelchair after a while, i started standing then walking with he crutches but eventually I went back to school,” she said

Despite three suicide attempts, the gospel singer and school principal today simply wants the world to know that disability should not prevent anyone from achieving their goals.

“In my early years, i was psychologically traumatized because everybody was stigmatizing me, i attempted suicide thrice because of the pain i was going through, but my parents helped me through it,” she said

“Movement is better for me since the operation, with all the struggles I did Bachelor of Education Arts through diligence I and affirmative action I am now a Principal in Kilifi county. I am currently doing a PHD in Counseling Psychology.” she added

Nobody, including the Gospel singer, believed she could achieve what she has today.

“Apart from all these challenges, I went back to school and acquired skills. I  can do salon work, I am an author having written six books and published two of them. I have done 22 albums but I am still a principal running a school,” she said.
