Peponi View Estate tenants ordered to vacate as Ksh.200M houses near collapse
Tenants occupying multi-million shilling homes
nearing total collapse at the Peponi View Estate in Nairobi have now been
ordered to vacate the premises for safety reasons by the Nairobi County
government.
This comes after videos showing the affected houses
teetering at the edge of what seemed like a cliff, at the brink of absolute collapse,
went viral on social media on Thursday.
Residents of the area told Citizen Digital
that four of the houses - each said to be worth Ksh.200 million - were affected, but only two of them are presently
occupied.
The first two houses are said to have started
developing cracks on the walls about a fortnight ago, before the other two followed
suit on Wednesday this week.
The cracks were as a result of construction
works that were ongoing on Peponi Road, with the excavation causing the walls
of the said houses to collapse.
The construction works have since been
declared illegal and halted by the National Construction Authority (NCA) as
certain required permits were found lacking upon inspection on Thursday.
The State authority has since launched a
manhunt for the owner of the property that was under construction.
