The Pentecostal Voice of Kenya (PVK) has strongly condemned
the brutal killing of Albert Ojwang while in police custody, terming it a
disturbing reminder of the country’s ongoing struggle with extrajudicial
killings.
In a press statement, the association called for justice and
accountability, urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and
other relevant agencies to expedite investigations into Ojwang’s death,
prosecute those responsible, and ensure justice for his grieving family.
"PVK also demands that the government enact and
implement comprehensive statutory and policy reforms in the security sector
that will put an end to these extra-judicial killings once and for all, and
uphold the sanctity of human life. It is only by doing so that we will start to
heal as a society, and ensure sustained peace and stability in our country,” PVK
Chairperson Apostle Peter Munyuru said.
"We commend the Kenyan people, especially the Gen Zs, for being resolute and steadfast in agitating for our rights and demanding accountability. However, as we do so, we urge all of us to maintain the peace and guard against rogue elements looking to take advantage to cause mayhem, chaos and havoc in our society, harm people and destroy property..."
Ojwang was arrested on Friday and reported dead on Sunday morning.
