Pastor's home raided by DCI officers, claims he's targeted for criticizing gov't
A senior Kenya Power Company member of staff has raised concerns about his safety after men claiming to be Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers invaded his home in Ruiru Thursday night in an attempt to arrest him.
Eliud Ng'ang'a, a senior engineer with Kenya Power Company and a preacher, believes the attempt to arrest him could be related to a sermon he delivered criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government.
The arrest was thwarted by alert neighbours who stepped out to see
what was happening to one of their own.
In the clip, Ng'ang'a insists on establishing the identity of six
armed men who had parked a double-cab pickup and a station wagon outside his
home. The men were, however, hesitant to identify themselves.
In another clip, two men who were part of the team were seen jumping over the fence minutes after they had assessed the compound. The men could be seen conversing after they realised that the pastor was adamant about identifying themselves.
Minutes
later, Ng'ang'a left the house and could be seen arguing with the men. There was a confrontation, and his son was seen rushing to the gate.
"Nikaanza kuwauliza mnasema nyinyi ni nani na mnataka nini hakuna mtu alinizungumzia ndio nikaambia my son achukue hizo gari number zote moja akatoa bunduki akasema nitakuchapa, nikasema utasema na mimi..." he explained.
It was at this time
that the team received a call from an unknown person, and they abandoned their
mission.
"Kila gari ilikuwa na dereva na ambao hawakutoka na kulikuwa na madam kwa Subaru..." he added.
Ng'ang'a, a senior engineer at Kenya Power, Kiambu, and a pastor, claims that he could have been targeted due to a sermon he delivered.
"Inaeza kuwa shetani anatumia hata serikali ambayo tuko nayo mambo
ambayo tunaona haiendi vizuri ili sisi wakristo kuambia Bwana hauskii mambo
yote, kwa siku ya leo ukitaka watu wakufuate wanyime chakula, wakati mtu ako na
njaa ukimwambia kitu yoyote anafuata hizo ndio vitu nilihubiri mara ya
mwisho..." Ng'ang'a noted.
The family, which now lives in fear as they are unaware of the mission of the eight men, has reported the matter at Gatong'ora Police Station.
Police officers from Kenya Power visited his residence to record statements from him.
The incident raises
concerns about the intimidation of church leaders who have been vocal over the
state of governance in the country.
