Pastoralist Parliamentary Group defends Noordin Haji ahead of vetting as NIS boss

Outgoing DPP Noordin Haji

The Pastoralist Parliamentary Group claims there is a plot to malign outgoing DPP Noordin Haji’s character ahead of his vetting for the position of Director General for the National Intelligence Service.

Haji will appear before the National Assembly's Departmental Committee on Defense  Intelligence and Foreign Relations on Tuesday.

Haji has been in eyes of the storm with civil society groups objecting to his nomination claiming he is unfit to hold the office.

"It is the discretion of the president to pick the best spymaster General from all options at his disposal. President Ruto's choice of Haji as his top security advisor followed thorough scrutiny of the credentials of several officers within the agency. we therefore caution anyone with ill intention of maligning Mr Noordin Haji ahead of his vetting and approval by Parliament that they are too late...any issues they are rasing now should have come when he was still DPP," said Saku Mp Didio Rasso.

On his part, Eldas MP Adan Keynan noted: "If there are issues they will come out but so far there's nothing that demonstrates Noordin has done even an iota of mistake. He has done very well the issue of conviction is not under Noordin it is a process. The investigation is done by police."

The legislators exuded confidence that despite the backlash on Haji’s appointment he is best suited for the post.

Haji, a former top officer at the spy agency, where he served as the deputy director of the counter-organised crime unit, will replace Major-General (Rtd) Philip Kameru if cleared by Parliament.
