Pastor Dorcas Rigathi leads Bomet University students in planting 10,000 trees
The Spouse of
the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on Friday morning led Bomet
University College students in a tree planting exercise in the ongoing 15
billion trees target by 2032 set by President William Ruto.
Speaking during
the exercise of planting 10,000 trees, Pastor Dorcas said it is one way of
mitigating climate change for the future.
“I know with
such activities we are changing the environment. To green your environment and
the country is the future,” she said.
“You are our
future, and when you take care of the future, I am very glad as a mother
because I know your children will live in a good environment.”
Pastor Dorcas said
some of the challenges affecting the world on matters of climate change are as
a result of negligence of the environment in the past.
Pastor Dorcas
has been touring institutions of higher learning to talk to the students as
well as tree planting. She has so far been to Chuka University and Masaai Mara
University among others for the exercise.
She also
challenged the students to shun drugs and substance abuse noting that this has
become a national crisis, instead urging them to focus on their studies for a
better future.
Bomet Governor
Dr. Hillary Barchok called on the students to come up with other ways of
mitigating climate change.
