Parliament to begin vetting PS nominees next week

President William Ruto’s nominees for Principal Secretary (PS) positions will undergo approval hearings on Friday, April 4, 2025, and Monday, April 7, 2025. 

In a notice, National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge announced that the respective Committees of the House will conduct the evaluations. 

Following the submission of the nominations by the President, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula informed members and referred the nominees for consideration by the relevant Committees.

On April 4, 2025, at 10:00 am, Ahmed Ibrahim, nominee for National Government Coordination, will appear before the Committee on Administration and Internal Security. 

Meanwhile, Stephen Isaboke, nominated for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, will face the Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation at the same time.

So will the nominee for Science, Research and Innovation Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, who will appear before the Committee on Education.

Caroline Karugu, who is Ruto’s nominee for East African Community Affairs, will face the Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations on Monday, April 7, at 10.00 am.

Cyrell Wagunda, nominated for the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management, will be grilled by the Committee on Finance and National Planning on April 4 at 10:00 am, followed by Boniface Makokha, nominee for Economic Planning, at 12:00 pm. 

Oluga Ouma, the nominee for Medical Services PS, will also appear before the Committee on Health on April 4 at 10:00 am.

Judith Pareno, nominated for Justice, Human Rights, and Constitutional Affairs, will be evaluated by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on April 7 at 10:00 am. 

Jane Imbunya, Ruto’s pick for Public Service and Human Capital Development, is scheduled to face the Labour Committee on April 4 at 10:00 am.

Michael Lenasalon, selected for the Devolution docket, will appear before the Committee on Regional Development on April 4 at 10:00 am. 

Carren Achieng, nominated for Children Welfare Services, will be evaluated by the Social Protection Committee at the same time.

Nominees Fikirini Jacobs (Youth Affairs), Regina Ombam (Trade), and Aden Abdi (Shipping & Maritime Affairs) will face their respective Committees on April 4. Fikirini and Ombam will be questioned separately at noon, while Abdi is scheduled for 10:00 am.

Those contesting the suitability of the candidates must submit written affidavits and supporting evidence to the Clerk of the National Assembly by Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
