Parliament is gathering evidence on June 25 protest breach - MP Nelson Koech

Belgut Member of Parliament (MP) Nelson Koech has intimated that a probe, however in its formative stage, has been launched to apprehend persons behind the Parliament breach on June 25 during the nationwide protests.

Speaking on Monday, Koech said that parliamentary security is conducting a joint operation with the National Police Service to gather evidence that will aid in holding anybody culpable.

"There has not been any probe by parliament but there is an initiation of a process of evidence gathering by CCTVs and individuals who are capable," he said speaking on Citizen TV's Daybreak show.

This comes amid questions on whether the legislative building has been conducting internal evidence to establish where there were security loopholes.

Koech further expressed confidence in President William Ruto's commitment to hold all persons involved in criminal acts during the protests to book saying that even officers will not be spared.

"It even includes sending a few officers away if they are found to be culpable so I'm sure it's a broad-based situation on how he is going to handle it," he noted.

"My responsibility as an MP is that we invite the responsible agencies to explain to the country what might have happened and what is this that IPOA is requesting from the police that they are not being given."

Unarmed peaceful protesters were shot dead outside parliament buildings during the breach and the government has been put to question on why no action has been taken over a month later.

President Ruto has insisted that his administration will conduct thorough investigations and track down the "criminals" who invaded and torched Parliament, the Judiciary, and Nairobi County Government offices.

He believes that those who invaded parliament targeted the armoury and the musoleum.
