Parents of child with heart condition seek help as SHA yet to cover expenses
Kemboi had been to various hospitals seeking health services for his child’s from a heart condition. The farmer had confidence in the new health cover, which the state said would improve healthcare especially among low-income earners.
Having registered under the health scheme, Kemboi says he has never gotten any support as he continues to seek treatment in various hospitals in Kenya.
With hopes of getting help vanishing, Kemboi opted to sell a parcel of land and some of his assets in bid to cater for medical expenses to his baby who was born with the heart condition last year.
During a visit to his home in Emening, the family had gathered pondering the next move having exhausted all the avenues of raising funds including harambees. While perusing medical records from various health facilities, the family expressed their frustration that despite president William Ruto’s assurance on SHA, their dream is yet to be true.
His wife Mary Lagat has been in and out of various hospitals with no help forthcoming. The hospitals are charging over Ksh.2 million for the open surgery, money which is not within their reach.
As Kemboi hopes for a solution, his child ails at home as the mother faces sleepless night pondering her next move.
The family is calling upon Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa to intervene to ensure the life of their child is saved.
