Panic as man killed, pregnant woman stabbed in Kirinyaga
Residents who demonstrated against a surge in crime in the area demanded that authorities take action, pointing fingers at a group of school dropouts who have turned to crime.
Josphat Murimi, 36, was killed by unknown people while relaxing at a local church, according to Kiarukungu location Chief Henry Kariuki, who confirmed the incidents.
Relatives of the late Murimi, led by his uncle Josphat Kiriga, said they learned of his death while on their way to church.
“I was shocked to see Murimi lying in a pool of blood. We want justice and know who killed our son,” Kiriga said.
Meanwhile, Mercy Auma, the other victim, was attacked and stabbed in the stomach at a nearby shopping center.
Mwea -east police commander Daniel Kitavi said police have launched an investigation into the two incidents and that officers will be deployed to the Kiumbu shopping center to deal with the criminals ruthlessly.
