Over 400 persons with disability benefit from assistive and mobility devices from Kenya Re
This initiative dubbed Niko Fiti aims to support persons with disabilities, with over 420 beneficiaries identified in Mathira and Naromoru regions.
During the third and final phase of the 2023 Chapter distributions, Group Managing Director Dr Hillary Maina Wachinga expressed satisfaction with the distribution, stating that they have provided over 430 devices to beneficiaries, mostly children.
“These form part of over 1000 devices distributed in Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties within the last month. We are happy to have achieved this as we know that these devices will change lives,” said Dr Maina.
The Niko Fiti campaign is a nationally recognized initiative implemented in partnership with the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK). The program utilizes community networks to identify individuals in need of support.
Anthony Nzuki, the Chief Executive Officer of APDK, commended the community in Nyeri for their support in identifying and registering potential beneficiaries.
He encouraged more persons with disabilities to register with the national registry, stating, that such databases aid in “identifying some of those in need and the level of support needed to help them.”
In total, the 2023 Chapter of Niko Fiti targeted Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, and Nyeri Counties, with 1,037 mobility and assistive devices distributed to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities.
