Irrigation project in Escarpment Lari Constituency in Kiambu

Over 1,500 residents in Escarpment Lari Constituency in Kiambu are set to benefit directly from a new initiative by the state Department of Irrigation, which plans to develop 500 acres of land sourced from the Gitamaiyu River.

During an inspection of water retention areas in Kinale and Kereita Forest, Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho announced that the entire project will cost Ksh.316 million.

The project will introduce a gravity-fed piped sprinkler system as part of the Ministry's efforts to support food security in the region.

Lari Constituency MP Mburu Kahangara highlighted that the Escarpment area has a long-standing issue with a shortage of clean water for domestic use. He emphasized that this project will resolve the water crisis that has affected the community for years.

Resident Charles Njuguna also expressed support for the initiative, particularly the construction of a 1,450-meter conveyance pipeline. This pipeline will allow local farmers to form water user organizations, ensuring the sustainability of the water scheme for future generations.
