Over 100 families rendered homeless in Naivasha

The evictions destroyed property worth millions of shillings, with residents saying those behind the evictions defied a court order obtained by the affected families.
Distraught by the incident, the affected families called on the government to intervene and dispense justice.
"Tunauliza tu president.Sisi ni wenyeji hapa na sisi ni wanainchi wa kenya hii wametufanya tuwe maskini, tuwe hatuna boma, mahali ungeita kako si kwako tena na sisi hatuulizi mtu yoyote tunauliza tu haki ifanyike. So tunauliza tu serikali ingalie tu masilahi ya mwanainchi,"Godfrey Waweru, one of the victims, said.
"Shida kubwa ni kutumia mali ya umma kudhulumu mwananchi. Kuna watu wanaharibia serikali jina," Edwin Maina, another affected resident, lamented.
Naivasha Member of Parliament Jane Kihara condemned the evictions, accusing senior officials of orchestrating the crisis.
"Why would they come to disturb people who have been here all along? Why would they come and demolish houses, fences? They have titles and letters of allotment. This is the highest order of impunity," she said.
The lawmaker criticized the destruction of a key road, saying the damage was meant to facilitate a land-grabbing opportunity for the perpetrators.
Kihara said she would seek justice for residents, pointing out that some farmers have valid title deeds for the land they were evicted from, issued by the government.
