Members of parliament under the Azimio coalition party have now been challenged to come out and demand for their rightful position in parliament.

This is after a February 7, 2025 court ruling that quashed an October 6, 2022, decision by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to declare President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition the majority.

Siaya governor James Orengo has said that the High Court ruling that declared Azimio as the majority party in parliament is a clear indication that the 2022 presidential election results which were announced were not correct.

“What the High Court said is a confirmation that election results announced in the last elections were not correct. That is the confirmation. Raila’s party and coalition could not have got the majority of seats and lose the presidential elections,” Orengo said on Saturday.

The long-term Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politician challenged the Azimo members led by those in ODM party to come out and demand for the majority position in parliament.

“I am asking my party ODM, don’t lose the court declaration that Azimio is the majority in parliament. Do not leave it. Instead of sitting at the table with whoever is in power, the court is giving you what belongs to you,” Orengo stated during the burial of Richard Ochieng’ Oloo, father to city lawyer Willis Otieno

The governor told Azimio not to let the position go or even think about negotiating with Kenya Kwanza leaders.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Safina Party leader Jimmy Wanjigi, who said Azimio MPs are now in a better position to remove President William Ruto from office by impeachment.

Wanjigi said ODM party, and by extension Azimio, has gotten a golden opportunity to impeach Ruto by March 2025, warning that a new game plan shall be hatched should they fail to do so.

The burial ceremony was also attended by Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti who on her part, appealed to the Luo community to support Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential bid come 2027 general elections.
