According to Orengo, the milestone has been achieved through partnerships, especially with America’s Center of Disease Control and prevention (CDC).
Speaking when he received a CDC delegation led by the Director for the Global Heath Center in Kenya Ms. Kayla Laserson, the governor pointed out that the partnership has been fruitful and continues to bear more fruits.
“The partnership has yielded substantial results in the area of disease burden. This is in Malaria, HIV and TB. We must be alive to the fact that as a county and country, we must undertake some of the responsibilities,” Orengo said.
He noted that the success is not only on the HIV transmission but also Malaria, TB and many more areas have also registered improvement.
While looking forward to more engagement with the CDC, Orengo pointed out the need for sustainability that will see the Siaya deal with disease burden even when CDC shall have officially exited.
On her part, Ms. Kayla Laserson assured of a continued collaboration and partnership with Siaya County and Kenya as a whole.
She noted that the visit to Siaya is to learn some of the successes and priority areas that would still need improvement to ensure better health for citizens.
