Opinion Poll: Sakaja, Sifuna, Passaris most preferred candidates in Nairobi
A new survey released on Tuesday by research firm Tifa shows that if elections were held today, Sakaja, who is the UDA Party candidate would emerge the winner with 40 per cent of the votes followed by Jubilee Party's Polycarp Igathe at 32 per cent.
"Johnstone Sakaja of UDA has more female supporters as compared to Polycarp Igathe (41% vs 24%). There were no major differences in the support for two candidates by age group," reads the survey in part.
Regarding the Senatorial race, the Tifa Poll shows that Edwin Sifuna of the ODM Party is three times more popular compared to the UDA candidate Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
The survey shows if elections were held today Sifuna would secure 27 per cent of the total votes while Bishop Wanjiru would get 9 per cent of the votes.
On the battle for the Woman Representative seat, the poll indicates that incumbent Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris of ODM is nearly twice as popular as her nearest rival, Millicent Omanga of UDA with both candidates commanding 32 per cent and 19 per cent respectively.
"...Though interestingly, her (Passaris) lead among men is considerably higher than it is among women (39% vs. 19% among the former compared with just 24% vs. 20% among the latter). Just why this is must be discovered through further qualitative research," adds the report.
The poll sampled 632 registered voters spread across 17 constituencies in Nairobi and was conducted on June 20.
