One suspect arrested as bhang worth Ksh.9.4 million seized in Machakos, Isiolo
Police have seized over 335kg of bhang in two
separate security operations in Machakos and Isiolo counties, leading to the
arrest of one suspect and the impounding of a vehicle involved in drug
trafficking.
In Athi River, Machakos County, a tip-off
from a member of the public led the authorities to a building under construction
at Kwa Mang’eli area where eight gunny bags containing 115kg of cannabis
estimated at Ksh.3,450,000 in street value were recovered.
A guard deployed at the site was arrested as
police hunt for the owner of the house, who has since been identified as Susan
Muya.
In the second incident, a multi-agency team
based at Kinna VCP within Garbatulla intercepted a Nissan X-trail based on an
intelligence report that the vehicle was ferrying narcotics along the
Isiolo-Modogoshe highway.
The driver tried to evade the police, leading
to a chase that saw the vehicle immobilized half a kilometre away.
The two occupants of the vehicle were able to
escape on foot, leaving behind 44 bales of cannabis each weighing 5kg,
estimated at Ksh.6 million in street value.
Exhibits from both operations have been
processed and preserved as evidence, as heightened operations against drug use
and trafficking continue across the country.
