One person killed, 6 injured after gunmen attack vehicles on Nairobi-Moyale highway

One person was killed and six injured in two separate attacks along the Nairobi-Moyale highway.

In one of the attacks, a passenger bus belonging to Salama Company was attacked between Maye and Qate, a few kilometres from Moyale town.

The bus, which had 50 passengers onboard, was headed to Nairobi.

In the second attack, a land cruiser which was following the bus was also attacked, killing one passenger and injuring another.

“On Monday, 02/09/2024, at around 2030 hours, an unknown number of armed men attacked Salama Bus, registration number KCX 083 N, make Isuzu, plying the Moyale-Nairobi route, between Maye and Qate near Dambala Fachana in Sololo Sub-County,” read a police report.

“Shortly after the incident, another vehicle, registration number KBT 470 P, make Toyota Land Cruiser, which was following the bus, was also attacked in the same area.”

Those injured included five men and a 21-year-old woman.

The deceased was shot in the head and succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital after the land cruiser was attacked. Luckily, the driver escaped unhurt.

Those injured were taken to the Sololo mission hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
