One person killed, 3 others injured in accident on Maralal-Kisima road
A driver died and three other people were
severely injured after the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with another
on the Maralal-Kisima road in Samburu County on Friday evening.
According to police reports, the driver attempted to overtake a motorbike moving towards Kisima
town when he collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Samburu Central OCPD Moses Owiti confirmed
the incident saying the deceased’s son, wife as well as the other driver
escaped the accident with injuries.
“They were rushed to Samburu County Referral
Hospital here at Maralal where they are being treated,” said the police boss.
The wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to
Maralal Police Station.
Residents present at the scene complained
that the road was left without signage, markings and loose chippings; a
situation they said has exposed motorists to the risk of accidents.
“We urge the national government to intervene
by ensuring that the road is properly marked with signage to guide motorists
who are using the road for the first time,” Paul Matheri Muhoho, a resident of
Maralal town, said.
The police boss has since advised motorists
and pedestrians using the route to be careful so as to curb accidents as the
road is still new.
