A congregant with the Maranatha Faith Assembly Church  in Ongoche sub-location, Nyatike sub-county died on Sunday while four others sustained injuries after the wall of a  building under construction collapsed.

According to the area Assistant Chief Richard Juma, the church services had just ended and a few church members including the deceased and the injured four were still in church discussing church matters when the wall of the church under construction collapsed.

Juma said the middle aged man died on the spot while the four were rushed to Migori Level Four Hospital for treatment.

The Assistant Chief said they suspect that the collapsing of the wall was occasioned by the heavy rains being experienced in the region and indeed in the country.

He revealed the congregants have been using a make-shift structure erected at the centre of the building under construction for their Sunday church services.

Juma said the matter is being investigated by the police who also came to the scene immediately after the accident.

Meanwhile, he has appealed to the members of the public to be careful at this time of heavy rains.
