The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) arrested one suspect on Saturday during a shisha crackdown at an entertainment joint in Hurlingam, Nairobi.
NACADA Head of Enforcement Nicholus Kosgey said that several
shisha products were also seized at Ledet bar and restaurant along Argwings Kodhek.
“We want to ensure that our people and generation do not continue
consuming nicotine products,” he said.
He further vowed that a nationwide crackdown would continue
to tame the sale and abuse of the banned products.
The suspects will remain in police custody awaiting arraignment
on Tuesday.
The raid comes after Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale
suspended all existing nicotine licenses to tame abuse, ordering a fresh vetting.
CS Duale said all persons currently licensed will now
be required to reapply afresh within 21 days by observing full compliance laws
for vetting.
