Omanga defends Ruto's comparison of Mukuru Kwa Njenga to Europe
The President, in a media roundtable on Sunday, likened the slum’s transformation to Europe, attributing it to the Housing project he launched last year.
“I want to ask you to go to Mukuru where we are building 14,000 houses. If you go there today, you will not think it is a slum, you will think it is from Europe,” he said.
However, journalists from Nation Media visited Mukuru Kwa Njenga and revealed challenges marring the area such as submerged houses and poor drainage, raising questions about the accuracy of the President's analogy.
In response to the video shared by the outlet, Omanga asserted that the Affordable Housing Project, given time, will enhance the quality of life and reshape Mukuru's image.
“On Mukuru kwa Njenga slums looking like Europe, isn't it a fact that the ongoing affordable housing project is greatly transforming the quality of lives and the image of the estate?” she wrote.
In her statement, Omanga took issue with what she deemed a tendency to "fake ignorance," by the media house.
”I can see it has become fashionable for even the most knowledgeable to fake ignorance,” Omanga asserted.
