Since the formation of broad-based government, which saw opposition leader Raila Odinga merge forces with President Ruto, Orengo has been very critical of the ruling administration.
Most recently, Orengo lashed out at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders for supporting Ruto.
Speaking during a church service in Migori County, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga dared Orengo to leave the ODM Party if dissatisfied with the pact between Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“I don't know my governor Orengo is annoyed, is annoyed with who, the truth of the matter is ODM is in broad-based government, the likes of Orengo are vomiting on us , why don't they move out and vomit there,” Oburu remarked.
On the other hand, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi fingered Orengo for sabotaging the nation's development and the success of the broad-based government.
He dared him to take action, scoffing at his old age, which he said will not allow them to stage a defence against the State.
"Some leaders in this community are promising that they are willing to go back to jail or the streets. Some of them are so advanced in age that if they go to jail they will not come out because jail is like hell," Atandi said.
"We have an opportunity to work with our president to transform our region."
He further assured President Ruto of the support from the Nyanza region, noting that the Luo community will support him up to 2032.
In the tour, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also chided Orengo, saying they “have no regrets joining the broad-based government.”
Governor Orengo has slammed a section ODM members for following President Ruto blindly without questioning the errors in his administration.
"The law can never be suspended, you must always live by the dictates of the Constitution. When (Adolf) Hitler formed the government, it was a coalition and that coalition died so I pray that ODM to withstand any storm," he said at a past address.
"Even if you make compromises, you must do so on principle. Don't be part of praise and worship, we must stand firm."
Also during the burial of Odinga’s bodyaguard George Oduor, Orengo boldly told ODM supporters that they should stand up and fight for their rights.
“I cannot be a praise-singer. We fought for a democratic Constitution where people should speak freely. I urge Kenyans to tell their leaders the truth. This country will go to the dogs again if the kind of language we hear continues,” he said.
“If anything is brought to Siaya County, it will be as a matter of right, not as a favour. There is a need to fight got your rights and you will still have a better country.”
Mr. Odinga has however come to his defense, noting that Governor Orengo has not committed any crime and should not be censured for voicing his political opinions.
“When Mr. James Orengo talks, he’s talking on the basis of MoU between ODM and UDA. He has not committed any crime, he’s got a democratic right to say what he wants to say,” said Odinga at a past event.
